Zhirkov Makes Plan B (Again) in case He Doesn’t Cut It At Chelsea.
Posted on February 24th, 2011 | by xhuga2 in Uncategorized,ZhirkovAs we all know Yury Zhirkov was out injured for 3 months before his substitute appearance against FC Copenhagen .
If you thought Yury Zhirkov would just focus on earning himself a first team place you thought wrong. Yury plans to leave Chelsea if he fails to make first team.
Yury told The Sun: “My only target at the moment is to get back into the main Chelsea team”.
“If I’m successful with that, all the other issues will resolve themselves.
“But if I fail to achieve that between now and the summer, I will start thinking of other possibilities.”
I have no qualms with Yury leaving Chelsea if he doesn’t get game time to prove his worth.
My concern with Yury’s statement is that it feels like he is setting himself up to fail. If you have your mind distracted with a possible exit, how can you focus on earning and retaining a first team place?
Could it be that Zhirkov has long given up on Chelsea? Could it be that he wanted to leave in January only for injury to prevent him? I raise these questions because this is not the first time Zhirkov has issued such statements.
In September 2010, Yury said: “I’ll certainly get a chance in the next few months and I’ll try to use it completely,” he said.
“Then, in the winter, everything will probably depend on whether I got this chance and how I used it.
Whatever Zhirkov has planned. I can only wish him the best whilst he is in Blue.
