Will Ferguson Ever Make A Move For This Midfielder?

Posted on November 1st, 2011 | by The United Religion in Javier Mascherano

Sir Alex Ferguson has openly admitted that his back-four and goalkeeper are being overexposed, which stems from not having a midfielder enforcer, so there’s a rumor about him making a move for Javier Mascherano.

Jav United gone mad with Mascherano link?

It would certainly be a bold move by the Gaffer, considering he spent four full seasons at Liverpool, but if it’s a player that he needs, like he did with Michael Owen, he will wont hesitate making the move.

Barcelona paid United’s bitter rival £22m just two seasons ago, so it would take a lot more than that for Ferguson to lure him away from the reigning European champions – and that’s if Mascherano would even come.

United supporters know first-hand that the 27-year-old plays on the edge of lunacy – as they witnessed two of his sending offs in the Northwest Derby. However, Mascherano, who is under contract until 2014, was outstanding in the 2011 UEFA Champions League Final and one of the main reasons United were well beaten by Barca.

The only way that he would ever go to United, is because Pep Guardiola has chosen to use him primarily in a defensive role, rather than his preferred midfield position. Everyone and their brother knows that United are short in that department and the Argentinean captain would be an ideal player to resolve that issue.

If you believe some of the reports, he could’ve already been at Old Trafford.

In the summer of 2006, there massive amounts of rumors circulating that United were interested in both Mascherano and Carlos Tevez, but because of their third-party ownership, Ferguson decided against it. At that time though, the Gaffer had a fit Owen Hargreaves, but everyone knows that ending to that disappointing story, so that move was more than likely never going to happen.

While he would be a very good signing, and exactly kind of player that would help shore of our weaknesses in the middle of the field, it would take some doing to get Javier Mascherano to Manchester United, so don’t hold your breath.
