Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is undergoing a revamp project at Stamford Bridge and River Plate’s 17-year old winger Lucas Ocampos is the latest starlet to be linked with a move to the Blues, in an attempt to mix the existing experience with talented youth.
While many fans are still hoping that the Blues can seal a move for Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill, the Chelsea scouting staff have done a terrific job behind the scenes, and finding Ocampos, who has already represented Argentina at the under-17 level on 8 occasions and scoring three goals, has certainly proven the same.
The exciting winger has cemented his place in the Buenos Aires based club, and has broken into the first team this season, playing all of Plate’s 18 matches in the Primera B National League in Argentina. Apart from Chelsea, the 6 ft tall youngster has been targeted by the Europe’s other elite clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
The interested parties would prefer signing the attacking winger on a pre-contract before he signs his first professional contract at the age of 18, according to FIFA’s rules, but only time will tell which of these clubs manages to lure the Argentine away from his homeland.
