Stekelenburg the number one and young French starlet is on the radar.

Just a quick little update on things for today; it’s Sunday and I’ve things to do.

Maarten Stekelenburg appears to have become transfer target number one on Arsene Wenger’s radar with reports of a bid being made gathering significant pace. He’s a good ‘keeper with a solid selection of displays behind at the World Cup. However, if I’m not mistaken, he’s cup-tied now for European competition thanks to playing for Ajax (someone mentioned this earlier on another post, and I’m yet to check it out. Feel free to point out if I’m wrong).

For me, that’s a large stumbling block. We need a new face between the sticks for the Champions League as much as we do the Premiership – buying someone who’s unable to play in Europe in such an important position smacks of a bad idea to me.

Another new rumour on the scene has us linked for yet another player who shares his first name with a French porno. St Etienne’s striker, Emmanuel Riviere, is a young forward in France who getting rave reviews and is highly-rated throughout the country.  The player himself is said to be eager to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Thierry Henry, and was quoted as saying:

“Arsenal would really be the jewel in the crown for me. They play a fast-moving, attacking style of football, and they’re always shooting on goal. I respect Thierry Henry for who he is, he has always inspired me”

Could be some truth in this one, but I’m not sure a new forward is going to be a priority for Le Boss at the moment.
