Squillaci's look of agony showed he regreted the choice of such a tight shirt.
It’s pathetic how proud I am of that title.
France international, Sebastien Squillaci is having a medical at Arsenal and, once that formality is out of the way, he will be unveiled as a Gooner sometime today. The news has been confirmed by his club’s official site.
Since I heard the rumours, I’ve been hoping we sign him because he’s a reliable, solid and experienced defender who not only provides a bit of welcome cover, but healthy competition for a starting place also. He may share similar height deficiencies to both Vermaelen and Koscielny – he stands a mere 6”0 – but he is still good in the air. Perhaps the only thing he does lack is the pace of the aforementioned two.
The reported fee ranges from £5.3 million to £6.5 depending on which website you read, but any which way you look at , it’s a decent fee for an international defender, even if he is 30 – Christ, if James Milner is worth £26 million, then it’s a fucking steal by comparison.
The deal should officially be announced sometime today or Tuesday and it’s very welcome news indeed. All we need now is the swift acquisition of a good shot-stopper and we’ll have a great deal more strength in depth.
