Silly Season begins early. Chelsea linked with Arshavin.

The Daily Star has linked us with a summer move for Arshavin. According to them, we are willing to dish out £15 million for him. As usual, an unnamed source said “Both Arsene and Andrey are frustrated but for differing reasons,” “For the manager it’s a case of seeing a player perform below his capacity and for the player there is dissatisfaction at not playing so regularly.”
The article is funny for three reasons. First, Chelsea will not sign a player whose current form is average at best unless he has an amazing CV. Arshavin showed some potential when he initially joined Le Arse. When he scored four goals against the Scousers in April 2009, many thought he could become a premier league great. Roll on to 2011, Arshavin is struggling to stay in Wenger’s worst first team in a decade. I do not think being Russian will be enough to get him into Chelsea especially for 15m.
Second, Arshavin will not have first team guaranteed even if Chelsea signed him. The competition in Chelsea is tougher than at Arsenal. Our players fight to keep their place. If he wants first team, he has to move back to Russia.
Finally, I doubt Chelsea fans will be ‘very’ welcoming to a former Arsenal player especially if it is one with a horrible attitude towards his profession like Arshavin. Expect more silly stories like this in the summer.
