Player of the Month Edin shoulders above the rest

Edin Dzeko has been named Barclays Player of the Month for August after an outstanding start to his first full season with the club.

The Bosnian scored in both of City’s opening fixtures against Swansea and Bolton Wanderers, leading the club to 4-0 and 3-2 victories respectively.

Dzeko then bagged four of City’s  five goals in an outstanding 5-1 away victory against Tottenham last weekend.

The decisions were made by the Barclays Awards Panel that includes representatives from football’s governing bodies, the media and fans.

Former City star Gary Owen said, “He came from not just a different style of football, but a different country. And he had to settle living-wise and with his new team mates. But he’s showing this season that what (former Wolfsburg manager) Steve McClaren said about him was right – that he will be a great asset to our football club.  He’s scored in every game this season, including the Community Shield. He got four yesterday and it could have been more. But with Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli on the bench, he, like all of our players, will have to keep on his toes to stay in the team.”

Dzeko, 25, joined City from Wolfsburg for £27million in January and only scored two league goals before this season.
