It’s Almunia for the season, let’s get behind him.
Posted on August 31st, 2010 | by Jay-Jay in Almunia,Arsenal,Arsenal News, deadline, keeper,Schwarzer, transfersWe’ve waded through mendacious paper-talk and endless speculation for some 4 months now, and we’re exactly nowhere with regard to finding a new ‘keeper. Some wanted Lloris, some wanted Akinfeev and some were quite happy to settle for Schwarzer.
Barring a miracle, we’ve got none of them. The transfer deadline has come and gone without so much as a peep from the club or even a tiny, burning ember of hope.
Manuel Almunia is our No. 1. He may not be what many of us wanted, but he’s what we’ve got, so lets do our best to get behind the guy. I feel sorry for him, it must be bloody awful constantly hearing stories that you’re being replaced, and, now that nothing has materialised, knowing that you’ve hardly earnt your place on merit alone.
The next home game we should cheer his name that little bit louder, let him know that we’re supporting him and not ready to rip him and the boss to shreds the moment he makes a mistake. I hope the small minority of boo-boys who gave Eboue such a hard time don’t focus their attentions on the Spaniard.
A ‘keeper with no confidence at all will be worse than anything. I’ve already heard the doom-merchants calling for Wenger’s head (fucking idiots) and some will see the failure to aquire a new ‘keeper as a monumental error. I think we needed one, but it’s certainly not the end of the world now that we do not have one.
Almunia has a better chance of producing the goods with the fans behind him, he’s no chance without them.
