Thierry Henry has backed the current generation of Arsenal players to bring an end to the club’s trophy drought and finally produce silverware.

Arsenal are still competing in all competitions with four major trophies to play for and Henry has expressed his belief that the club can secure their first piece of silverware since their move to the Emirates Stadium in 2006.

The striker remains Arsenal’s all-time top goalscorer and the Gunners legend admits that he is desperate for the club to win a trophy.

“The guys in the Arsenal dressing room are confident,” he told The Sun. “It all depends on them – Arsenal play the best football.

“I became an Arsenal fan and like all the Arsenal fans I want them to bring back silverware – that would be the cherry on the cake, especially for the boss and the fans.

“This generation are talented, there is just that little piece of silverware missing.”

Henry, who now plies his trade for the New York Red Bulls, has been training with Arsenal recently during Major League Soccer’s close season.

The Frenchman has also revealed he is relishing the opportunity to watch Arsenal take on Barcelona in the first knockout round of the Champions League in February.

Henry left Arsenal to join Barcelona in 2007 and the 33-year-old is wary of the threat of the Spanish champions but believes that the Gunners posses the ability to cause an upset.

“That is going to be the two best teams in terms of football,” he said.

“Both clubs play the way football should be played. I think for the neutral it will be an amazing game.

“For me? I’m an Arsenal fan but have a lot of friends at Barca – so it will be a difficult one.

“But if any team can beat Barca, it would be Arsenal.”

Amid much speculation linking current captain Cesc Fabregas with a move to the Nou Camp, Henry also believes that the Arsenal captain remains committed to the club and has spoken of his desire to see the 23-year-old stay in London.

He added: “I would tell him not to listen to anyone. He is an amazing player, talisman and club captain.

“If Arsenal go on to win the title, they will say he had an amazing season.

“Cesc is from Spain, but as an Arsenal fan I want him to stay at Arsenal. Right now you can see his commitment playing for the club.”
