WBA 1 v Spurs 3 – Report, Ratings & Looking Ahead
The opening goal came from West Brom, we weren’t quite awake when Assou Ekotto failed to close down Reid outside the area, the cross came into Mulumba who found himself unmarked in between King and Kaboul. The resulting header flew past Friedel and into the net. 1-0.
Great link up play between Adebayor and Lennon saw Aaron bust into the box, only to be clipped by Nicky Shorey, penalty Spurs. The resulting penalty from Ade was saved but he followed up and lifted it over Foster. On one hand, that’s only 7 penalties scored from the past 16 for us. On the other hand, the equalising goal means that Parker & Adebayor have so far spent just 15 minutes on the losing team during their 10 game Tottenham careers. 1-1.
We went in at half time, not deserving to be level, Redknapp duly unleashed his fury on the players and we came out in the second half a lot more solid. Plenty of missed chances from both sides until Ade flicked a cheeky back heel pass to Defoe who was able to run into the huge gap in front of him, uncontested, right up until the edge of the penalty box where he let fly and into the bottom left corner. 1-2.

| Anyone know what this celebration is all about?! |
West Brom looked beat, Defoe, Ade and Bale each had another golden opportunity each to get our third. It eventually came when Kaboul swung his leg to clear the ball, it fell for Bale on the edge of the box, he squared it to Ade, who passed the ball into the net during extra time to make the game safe. 1-3. Nine wins from ten, and only two points behind Man U with a game in hand.
Player Ratings
Friedel 6.5 - A few key saves, and a safe pair of hands as always.
Walker 6.5 – West Brom got a bit of luck out of Walker during the game. Especially towards the end of the match when two or three dangerous crosses came in past Walker.
Kaboul 7 – A bit wobbly in the first half, and let the WBA players get a few headers in on goal. But remained strong during the second half and I’m sure he definitely meant that pass to Bale for our third goal!
King 7 - Same as Kaboul, a bit wobbly in places but sorted himself out in the end. Should have scored when he rose the highest during a corner, only to nod it wide.
BAE 7 - Didn’t close down for the first goal, but composed, reliable and good in attack for the remainder.
Lennon 7 - Well on his way to being back to his best. Burst into the box and got fouled for the penalty and proved challenging for West Brom’s defenders all day.
Sandro 6.5 - On a tight rope for much of the match after receiving a yellow for a rash challenge early on, and could have received a second yellow a few times. Obviously not sharp enough to perform at the sort of level we can expect of him. Based on this match, didn’t do enough to remove anyone from the usual starting line-up in my eyes.
Parker 8 - Big part in stopping the rot in the second half. Parker continues to impress.
Bale 7.5 – Another one who is really getting back to top form. Really came alight towards the end of the game when there was more space. Should have scored late on, but good insight to pass to Ade for the third goal when in the same position a few minutes later.
Defoe 7.5 - Looked quick, sharp and a brilliant solo effort to get us the winner.
Ade 8 - So aware of the players around him, whether it’s Defoe, Rafa, Lennon or Bale, he always seems to know where our players are and is able to receive the ball from one of them or perform a cheeky little pass to play someone in. Could be more clinical in front of goal and once again could have had a lot more than the two goals.
Sub – Livermore 6 - Not on for long
Our nine in ten form looks like this: WWWWDWWWWW. Nice. With Bolton (H), Stoke (A), Sunderland (H), Chelsea (H), Norwich (A), Swansea (A), West Brom (H), Everton (H) and Wolves (H) our next nine league games ahead of our game at Man City, on the basis of our current form, they are all winnable games. What a time to be a Spurs fan! How long can we keep this going?! COYS!

WBA Away – Opposition Fan View, Pub Ammo & Team News
For me, this game is harder than the Villa game. Villa is a team that we’ve dominated at home over the past decade, whereas West Brom away is one of those Jekyll and Hyde games. You don’t know what West Brom team is going to turn up, but they are capable of getting something out of us. Despite our current run of form, the WBA forums back this view up and are filled with a mixture of cautious optimism and soul crushing despair.
Some of the Baggies fans are listing our midfield and forward players and are the following it up with a prediction of crushing defeat.
“with Lennon,Modric,Parker, van DH, Bale and Adebayor it hurts to say there can only be one outcome….Spurs by 2 clear goals.”
“Spurs 4-0
“
Where as the more optimistic ones are citing our Fulham game as an example of how we can be got at.
“Sure, they won 3-1 in the end, but the score line flattered them, and if we can exert the same amount of pressure, but be a bit more clinical in front of goal, we should get something out of this game. Desmond for me” (Desmond is a prediction of a 2-2 draw, as in Bishop Desmond Tutu)
“Can’t argue with that, Fulham deserved something out of the match, but Fulham we’re two nil down to Man City and came back to draw, they’re the only team to take points out of City this season and therefore had experience at pegging back a superior side. 2-0 to Spurs.”
WBA Fan predictions: WBA win 20%, Draw 50%, Spurs Win 30%
Pub Ammo
-Tottenham have won 99 Premier League away matches and drawn 99 too
-West Brom have only won two of their 10 Premier League matches against Spurs (W2 D4 L4), but both of those wins and only one defeat have come at the Hawthorns (W2 D2 L1)
-In their last eight Premier League matches, West Brom have either scored two goals or failed to score at all
-Tottenham are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League games (W8 D1) and have scored at least two goals in each of those matches.
-Spurs have conceded the joint-lowest percentage of goals inside the first 15 minutes (0%) and the highest percentage (40%) in the opening 15 minutes of the second half.
-Younes Kaboul has made more headed clearances than any other Premier League player this season (79). – Cracking Stat. Beast.
Team News
Gallas, Huddlestone, Dawson and Krancjar are out. We’re kicking ass at the moment, I don’t see any reason to change the team. UPDATE: From Redknapp: “Rafa is struggling with a hamstring injury while Jermain has a tight groin. That leaves us with Pav and Adebayor. Pav’s had a back problem but trained yesterday and looks fine.” Balls.
As I said at the start, a more difficult game than Villa, and as a cautious Spurs fan who doesn’t want to get caught up in our own hype…yet…I’m approaching this one with some cautious optimism. Either 2-0 Spurs or a Desmond. COYS.
