Clichy
« Previous EntriesShould Gibbs now be considered second choice left-back for Arsenal?
When Ashley Cole controversially left the Gunners to join Chelsea in 2006, substitute left-back Gael Clichy was given the chance to prove his capabilities on a permanent basis and didn’t let Wenger down. Now the Frenchman has himself left the club
RvP to be offered huge wage increase as Anzhi Makhachkala confirm interest
Arsène Wenger looks set to offer Robin van Persie a huge wage increase as part of a new 4-year contract as we fight to keep hold of our star striker. Van Persie’s current Arsenal contract expires in 2013, and our captain has indicated that he will …
Wenger denies van Persie transfer rumours
Arsène Wenger has acted quickly to quash rumours that Robin van Persie will be sold to Manchester City in January. Van Persie has two years left on his Arsenal contract, but does not seem to be in a particular hurry to discuss a contract extension, su…
Clichy – Fortunately I don’t play for Arsenal any more!
Former Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy still thinks that Arsenal will be fighting for the title until the very end despite the slight setback from the start of the season, but he is happy that he now plays for Manchester City instead, who are challenging…
Phil Gartside twitter blast costs Bolton £10m as Arsenal look up Mertesacker
L’Equipe is reporting this morning that Werder Bremen’s Per Mertesacker has flown to London for a medical ahead of signing for Arsenal Football Club. Nothing has been confirmed on Arsenal.com yet but if the big German does sign for the Arsenal it will signal an end of Gary Cahill’s chances of playing for the London team [...]
Next 3 Days Will Define our Season
After yesterday’s debacle, it is time to take a step back and see where we are, how did we get he and what the future holds. There is no point in analysing yesterday’s match, it is certified XXX in the minds of all Arsenal fans. We all knew it was not going to be an [...]![]()
Another Inactive Week on the Transfer Front
Following Saturday’s performance, we were slightly buoyed yesterday to be linked with Arteta, Kaka and M’Vila. Wenger has also gone on record that we are looking bringing in experience and we are looking at a couple of buys, this was however qualified with the usual, we are not near bringing in any players yet. Today, [...]![]()
Arsenal In Dire Straits
It’s now or never for Wenger. The squad is the weakest since Arsene’s reign started that there is no doubt. Suspensions and injuries are mounting and we have only played three games. Our squad for today included two players who are outward bound and contained 8 youngsters. Whilst we could see the potential in both [...]![]()
What Arsenal’s Preseason taught us about five players
Gooners should be careful not to read too much into preseason. Preseason is the time for experimentation and getting back into the groove of things. After all, half squad changes at half time don’t make for harmony, much less victory. Unfortunately, too many Gooners seem to have given up on the upcoming season before a [...]
Defensive Frailties Continue – Will Jagielka Save Us?
Arsenal couldn’t even win the Emirates Cup. This year our opponents were much weaker, and they still failed to win it. Two utterly disappointing draws. It’s true that there weren’t too many goals either. The same old story, Arsenal creates countless opportunities but convert only a few. However, once the season starts we know Arsenal ![]()
Arsenal 1-1 NY | Wenger prepares for life without Nasri
Once again Arsenal failed to hold onto a lead as poor defending cost them a win and allowed the New York Red Bulls to lift the Emirates Cup.
Wenger fielded what looked like his first XI and interestingly Nasri wasn’t included. Szczesny played the whole match in goal behind Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny and Gibbs. The midfield trio was Song, Wilshere and Ramsey with Gervinho and Rosicky out wide supporting captain van Persie. I think if Nasri was staying he wouldn’t have played the whole game in yesterday’s weaker line-up and would’ve started today ahead of Rosicky. With Sky Sports reporting that contract talks have stalled with the Frenchman, this was as clear an indication yet that no matter what he says in press conferences, Wenger is putting together a team for the big kick off which won’t include Nasri.
The game started badly for the Gunners when Wilshere was . . . continue reading this article.

Wenger’s Week With Destiny
When the season came to a close, Arsene stated that we needed a bit more strength and experience in the squad, in particular in defence. The old sage has since enlightened us with the fact that he will be busy this summer, this was then refined that most business will be done at the end [...]![]()
Hypocrite Wenger makes his annual excuse for not spending
Here we go again. I’m now more convinced than ever that no big signings will be made despite all the promises from Wenger, Gazidis and Hill-Wood that we’d be prominent players in the transfer market. Our main involvement in this summer’s market will be selling Fabregas, Nasri and Clichy.
Here is Wenger’s latest excuse reason for not spending the millions Arsenal have at their disposal:
“When you see all the fees around you become dizzy. We do what we want and we look first at the quality of the player and after if we have the money we spend it.”
The key phrase there is “we do what we want,” effectively saying he refuses to pay the going rate for a quality player because he thinks transfer fees are too high nowadays. I have just run his quote through my Wenger Bullshit-o-meter and the English translation is: “The . . . continue reading this article.

Cesc will leave for £35m and we won’t sign a replacement
Pep Guardiola has revealed that despite Wenger’s assertions last week that Fabregas would stay, Arsenal are in fact negotiating a fee with Barcelona:
“This year Arsenal has agreed to negotiate and we are working on it. Barcelona has made an offer, Arsenal another and we have time until August 31st and we’ll try to reach an agreement.”
The difference between last summer’s tedious soap opera and this is that we’re actively negotiating, whereas 12 months ago we were resolute that he wasn’t for sale. I think last year Wenger promised Fabregas he could go this summer and with Arsenal asking for £40m and Barcelona’s latest offer being £31m, it seems just a matter of time before both parties settle on a fee of £35m.

George: Yet another in-active transfer window
“I don’t think we are weak defensively, but we are an offensive team” (Sky Sports). Quotations like this from Arsenal Coach and figurehead Arsene Wenger sends me and I’m sure other supporter’s into a spiral of anxiety. But what is to come for Arsenal in the new season? Peter: Is Clichy right in saying that Arsenal will always fail in the end?
Gael Clichy simply refused to sign a new contract at Arsenal and would have been quite happy to sign for Liverpool until Man City came in with an offer, and he has now revealed that the reason he wanted to leave is because he is sick of failing at the final hurdle when it comes [...]
Neck out, head in noose
Last summer, in the first Silly Season of this blog, I attempted to analyse what really went on. As this blog is about Arsenal transfer rumours, the idea was to contrast all the short-sighted frenzy with more reasoned thought. As if. Second guessing Ar…
Clichy Not Used To Hard Tackling
Ex-Gunner Gael Clichy is getting used to a new way of training since he joined Manchester City. According to James Milner he isn’t used to facing hard tackles in training. Milner told the Sund: “Gael hasn’t been here too long but he’s seen a few tackles fly in. He’s surprised at that because at Arsenal [...]
2010/11 Player Analysis: Clichy and Gibbs
As you will be aware, Gael Clichy signed for Manchester City for a fee of somewhere around £7 million. Clichy (until he left) was the club’s longest serving current player and his impending departure sees the last remnants of our 2003/4 Unbeaten team disappear. An interesting fact that not many Arsenal fans know, is that when he was 15, read more »

New signings expected and the world of Arsenal in two days.
It’s really frustrating to know that two days have gone with the wind and I haven’t published any post. Oh my! Gibbs to replace Clichy | Same old Wenger | Does Cesc missing the tour mean anything?
My biggest fear upon hearing the news of Clichy’s sale is about being realised. As I suspected, Gibbs would be given a free ride to try to establish himself as the first choice LB next season. According to Wenger; “The reasoning is that Kieran …
Wenger confirms that Gibbs will replace Clichy
