Arsenal squad for Germany

Cesc Fabregas hasn’t recovered from his “muscular injury” in time for Arsenal’s trip to Cologne. Arsenal’s squad flew to Germany this afternoon, but our captain has stayed at home. Plenty of fans are speculating that Wenger isn’t being entirely truthful about Fabregas’ situation. It is rumoured that the injury is a cover-up, and that Cesc read more »

Den and dusted

Adeus Denilson. Ta-da for now (though I am prepared to wager that the ‘for now’ part will become ‘for good’). Denilson’s departure reminded me that this summer was as much about clearing out some deadwood as it was about bringing in some alivewood [find a new word - Ed]. He’s the first of the exclusive [...]

A week lost and Arsenal news to make up for it

I want to express my sincere apologies for the blog’s dormant state for an entire week. BlackBerry batteries have a knack for dying faster than the way Cristiano Ronaldo scores goals in Spain and I’ve been heavily involved in many activities in my NYSC camp at Okada, Benin. For starters, I do military drills on [...]

Szczesny Doesn’t Feel Sorry For Fabianski

Wojciech Szczesny believes that there will be stiff competition between himself and Lukasz Fabianski for the No 1 shirt in both the Arsenal team and the Polish national side. But he won’t feel sorry for him if he beats Fabianski to both spots. The Guardian reported Szczesny saying: “It doesn’t matter who challenges me,” Szczesny [...]

Two Gunners on their way out

Both Almunia and Bendtner have not been taken on our tour to Asia. This implies that they are probably on the way out of the club, as noted by Wenger. It has been reported that Almunia will be leaving this summer to a Spanish club for about £500,000. Almunia has endured a tough time at read more »

Sunderland’s Craig Gordon To Replace Almunia

Arsenal are interested in signing Sunderland’s Craig Gordon as Almunia is preparing to leave for Atletico Madrid or Malaga. The Daily Mail reports: The Scotland goalkeeper, who is out until August with a knee injury, will start the season behind new signing Keiren Westwood and has a year left on his contract.  Arsenal and Manchester [...]

Wenger reiterates Fabregas & Nasri stay, Bendtner & Almunia out + Juan Mata hope fades

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Nicklas Bendtner and Manuel Almunia are both in talks regarding moves away from Arsenal, and has further reiterated that both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri are set to remain at the Emirates this season. Bendtner and Almunia both failed to arrive with the Gunners squad for the pre-season tour of Malaysia. As we posted yesterday, the [...]

Candidates for Arsenal captaincy 2011/12 – Robin van Persie

Robin van Persie is the current vice-captain and the most likely candidate for the captaincy next season (if Cesc leaves). As much as I think that RvP deserves the captaincy for his performances on the pitch towards the end of last season, I am currently unsure as to whether he would be the best choice read more »

What has happened to the Arsenal exodus?

The signals at the tail end of last season suggested an exodus was on the cards. Fast forward to end of June and we are yet to see a single player leave. We all have our favourite player we want out of the door. The ones we would be ready to carry on o…

Players Who Need To Go

The upcoming summer, as said by Wenger himself, will be “very- very hot” for Arsenal and others in the transfer market. It’s because the Financial Fair Play rules will come into effect next year by this time. But did he really mean so? Or was it just a…

2010/11 Player Analysis: Almunia and Lehmann

Despite speculation that he would be sold last summer, Manuel Almunia started the 2010/11 season as our first-choice goalkeeper. However, Almunia picked up an injury in the game against West Bromwich Albion on September 25th and was subsequently kept out of goal for most of the season by Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianski. Almunia joined read more »

2010/11 Player Analysis: Fabianski and Szczesny

Our two Poles have flourished this season, and have been fighting it out for the number one spot. Fabianski started the campaign as our second keeper to Manuel Almunia, but after some high-profile errors by the Spaniard, Fabianski became Wenger’s first choice. However, Fabianski suffered a season-ending shoulder injury on 5th January, which paved the read more »

How much are Arsenal under-performers really worth?

How much money will Arsenal get by selling the current under-performers? Almost every Arsenal fans (including myself) is talking about the players we should bring in to bolster our squad. We should also remember that unless we make some room in the team, new players won’t find it too appealing to join us. Plus, just like the fans, these players want a bit of assurance that the effort they are going to put in will [...]

Season Review: Part I

This marks the beginning of the review of a pretty disappointing season for Arsenal. From challenging on four fronts to fourth spot in your domestic league, it has been a lackluster end to a very bright start. Mind you we had played extremely well for the until that Cup Final defeat. The highs of the season have always been followed by [...]

Ring Out The Old, Ring In The New: The Defenders

These are, of course, the words of Lord Tennyson, a favourite poet of mine who I fancy would have been a fan of The Arsenal had his life played out just a wee bit differently. That line gains relevance as I sit here: the season has ended and I consider exactly what, if anything, significant [...]

2010-11 Season Review: The Keepers

What a tiring season. One to forget really, except of course for the emergence of Jack and Szczesny, the return of Rambo, the dancing delights of Samir (just sign it man!) and the ruthless consistency of RVP. Here’s the first in wearethenorthbank’s mult-part review of those that wore the red and white of The Arsenal [...]

Bendtner, Clichy and Almunia to follow Denilson out the door?

There was a makeshift look to the Arsenal team today that faced Fulham. There was no Cesc Fabregas (I didn’t put him in the headline as we all know he has a longterm thigh injury, but that doesn’t mean he will still be at the Emirates next …

Denilson attacks Wenger – how many other players secretly feel the same?

Denilson has revealed he is disillusioned with life at Arsenal because he wants to win trophies. In an open attack on the man who has defended him time and again after countless ineffective performances and rewarded him with a bumper contract he didn’t deserve, an ungrateful Denilson complained to The Sun:

“This has been the worst season of my life and I am so upset, so frustrated. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I’ve been here for five years and won nothing. It’s great to play beautiful football but sometimes to be a winner you have to play ugly if you want to succeed.”

Which begs the question why in that case couldn’t he be arsed to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in more often? His apathetic performances and reluctance to track back have cost us key points in key . . . continue reading this article.

Dear Arsene, Please Let Go of the Deadwood

The following is purely for amusement, it will not be sent on to Arsene Wenger; ———————————————————————– Dear Mr Wenger, As an Arsenal fan all my life, I’m sad to see my first communication with you being in such bad spirit. Me, like thousands of fans around the world who love Arsenal FC, are extremely proud of the [...]
