Arsenal 2010-11 Season Awards

A very disheartening season for Arsenal has ended and here are the awards for the 2010-11 campaign.

“The sufferer of Arsenal’s injury hoodoo” Award
Winner: Kieran Gibbs
He was destined for big things the last year. Some even suggested he could displace Clichy. But not everything goes to plan, does it? Clichy did what he loves to. Make mistakes when it matters most. And Gibbs happily watched him on T.V. in the nearby hospital. You might call it bad luck, but injuries have prevented such an obvious talent from showcasing it to the world.

“Reminder of ‘Some People Are Born Jokers’” Award
Winner: Manuel Almunia
One thing’s for sure. He won’t be leaving for West Brom next year. He’s not new to this but I don’t know why he keeps reminding us that he’s a born joker.

“The Player that we laughed upon” Award
Winner: Eboue
He was back with all his Eboue-esque things prominently in the earlier parts of the season. Here’s one to remind you of it.

“Player able to foresee his future” Award
Winner: Cesc Fabregas
The reasons might be different but Fabregas mostly spent time on the sidelines because of his hamstrings this year. Well at least he understands how it’ll feel when he joins Barca!

“Most Ambitious Player” Award
Winner: Denilson(hehe)
This guy played around 15 games for us in which he was under performed only by Almunia. And when we finish the season trophyless, he wants out stating he’s a natural leader who just can’t accept not winnig trophies. Rightly said Deni.

And now to some serious ones.

Best Transfer Of The Season
Winner:Laurent Koscielny
No matter what you think about him, Koscielny has had a decent first season in English football. To make things clear, its no child’s play to play against the rugby-like teams in England, especially for someone who’s had just a single top-flight season under his belt. But Koscielny did handle it well enough.
Best Player Award
Winner: Jack Wilshere
Robin van Persie also deserves some credit here. But fom a player aged 19(well 18 at the start of the season), Wilshere has been no less than a phenomena. He’s consistently played well in 50-odd games for Arsenal. Well done Jacky!
Most Awesome Player
Winner: Wojciech Szczesny
He does everything that a fan admires. Teases Ashley Cole on Twitter, winks after cutting Bale’s legs and most importantly shouts at his shouts like no one else. In him, I think we’ve found a good awesome keeper.
Goal Of The Season
Winner: Samir Nasri’s 2nd against Fulham at the Emirates
Now there have been other great goals but this one really stands out. As soon as the ball hit the net, I jumped in ecstasy. Vela’s goal against Bolton and van Persie’s Roberto Carlos-like goal do get a mention.
Match Of The Season
Winner: Arsenal 2 Barca 1(obviously)
There’s isn’t any other option. Beating the best at what they do the best. Arsenal fans were in dreamland after that win. Wenger achieved ‘Nirvana’ that night and for once the Emirates could be heard here in India itself.
Well that’s it for the awards for this season.
