A Krul day for the Reds – 5 things we learnt from the Newcastle game
Posted on November 27th, 2011 | by Berbatron9.0 in Newcastle- Michael Carrick and @rioferdy5 are still class :
Yesterday, a certain Michael Carrick showed us why Fergie still has him in the team. Inside that calm exterior, Carrick showed so much character and with his silken one touch and switch of play kept the tight Newcastle defence on their toes. While @rioferdy5 was outstanding yesterday and even the tackle that led to that dubious penalty was a clean one, the ref’s of today think that a sliding tackle warrants a penalty or a sending off. They should be shown video highlights of the past!
- Newcastle Vs Man United feels like the olden days now :
Back in the 90’s Manchester united v Newcastle used to be a battle for the title spot. Although the toon aren’t title challengers yet, their team looks rejuvenated under Alan Pardew and are now posing a serious threat to bigger clubs. At this rate, the battle for the 4th spot will just become harder provided Newcastle don’t slip up in Jan.
- Giggs can still tear you apart for a few more years :
In the olden days, there used to be players who went on and on in top form till they became as old as the big Ben. Giggsy at 38 barring the drop in pace and a few bad passes here and there is still Fergie’s first choice. After dominating the wings for so long, the man has adapted to the central role so well. The Welsh wiz slid like an eel in between the two Taylors so easily and was a perfect partner to Carrick.
- Alan Pardew and his signings
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew is a wise man. Initially hated by the Geordie faithful for replacing their favourite Chris Houghton, Pardew etched himself into toon history after that epic 4-4 draw against the Gunners. Pardew’s signings this season have been astute. After flogging Andy Carroll for a few trucks of money and shipping out Geordie heroes Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton to London, the fans became unsettled and hated him even morem, but Pardew bought so well that he would put the oil wells of Arabia to shame. He bought free agents and low cost players and assembled a gritty team. This Newcastle side, provided they don’t sell have a bright future.
- That four letter word is missing
United this season are missing that four letter word LUCK. Yes, we lack a bit of bite from the previous United teams, but c’mon! A billion shots on target, a billion passes a few brilliant tackles and what do we get? A stale undeserving draw! I don’t blame the ref, its human to err and I also don’t think Tim Krul was the sole reason for 1-1.I feel we dropped points due to the missing shooting boots of our forward line. On a day when we could have buried a team 5-0, it all went missing!
