Ex-Gunners Claims Arsenal is Nothing Compared to Manchester City 0

Posted on September 06, 2010 by Footbaler of The Year

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has taunted that his current club is ‘bigger than Arsenal’.

The 26-year-old hitman spent three seasons at the Emirates before departing for Eastlands in 2009 and believes The Citizens will be on top of Arsenal by the end of this season.

The Togo international has dropped down the pecking order at Eastlands and was reportedly seeking an exit from the

Rooney Is Not That Kind Of A Person, Carragher Admires Arsenal, More 0

Posted on September 06, 2010 by desigunner

There’s not much happening in the world of Arsenal. Even a comment from Fabregas that had enough juice to launch a thousand headlines didn’t really get much attention (and I don’t have words to describe how delighted I am by that). One rag did conjure an amazing headline about how Arsenal kept El Capitan against his wishes but it seems most other hacks are busy with the Cricket scandal or the Rooney scoop.

Regular readers will know that I don’t generally spend much time on these scandals. Personally, I couldn’t care less. But since I’ve not seen these comments from anyone so far I thought it best to say it myself,

I can assure you Rooney is not that kind of a person. He is an honest lad and a role model for youngsters all over the world. If, as alleged, he did go in hard I’m sure there was no malicious intent and he certainly didn’t want to hurt Coleen (or his fans, manager, team-mates, et al).

I’m not particularly interested in how the story unfolds on a personal level for the United striker but I’ll definitely keep an eye on how he is treated by his managers (club and country) and by the media.

Will Sir Alex “At Manchester United we don’t just build footballers in terms of just ability, we try to build their character and make them better human beings, in terms of standards and responsibilities.” Ferguson take any action if the stories are true? (I’ll be very surprised if they are not.)

I seriously doubt that. I don’t think United can mount a serious challenge without Rooney. In the past when Fergie had to take some tough decision he didn’t face the level of competition that exists today. Most teams in those days lost the game even before it started. There are some that still do as Mick McCarthy showed us last year but that number is rapidly dwindling. I think Fergie will try to protect his striker and will, in the worst case, shield him by not playing him in tough games like the upcoming visit to Everton.

I would also like to note that I browsed around looking for reactions to the revelations and ended up visiting a couple of United blogs. I was impressed by the fact that many of their supporters were genuinely disappointed and didn’t condone Rooney. I have to say I’ll probably respect them a little more because of that.

Moving on, I read an interview that Jamie Carragher gave just before his testimonial game. One portion about “class and dignity” caught my eye. Speaking about the recent image of Liverpool he said,

I care about the club because I’m a supporter as well. It does bother me if things aren’t as they should be. I think a lot about the future of the club, the direction it’s going in, the way it is run and how it is perceived from the outside. There are some things that Liverpool should be doing in a certain way, the correct way. We should be a little bit different, and we need to get back to that.

I’m not just talking about winning games, but the way we do things and the way we conduct ourselves. The class and dignity this club was renowned for. It’s the way Liverpool used to be seen by people and we should be aiming to recreate that.

I just think that over the last few years people didn’t like Liverpool. Other managers didn’t like us, we were always getting criticism in the press, obviously we were not doing well on the pitch so that comes with it, but everything was just negative Liverpool all the time.

We’ve had situations like Martin O’Neill and Steve Bruce criticising Liverpool and they were right. We shouldn’t be getting involved with stuff like that. Everyone else should look at Liverpool and say they have dignity, class. I mean, like the way people look at Arsenal. They do things right and you think they conduct themselves in the right way. I think we have been a club who were like that and we need to get back to that, to do things right. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose; that’s football. You can’t win all the time. But you can still behave in a way where people respect you.

I liked the spontaneous way in which the first club that came to his mind was Arsenal. He was talking like a fan and that makes it even more pleasing. I’ve a feeling most individuals involved with English football will probably name Arsenal if they’re asked to associate a club with “class and dignity” (Fat Sam, Pulis, Brown, and some others might have a different view but I think we all know why that is). It’s not directly related to the football but I believe it’s quite important in its own right.

There’s not much else going on. Robben came out with some comments about Van der Vaart saying he was as good as Fabregas and that Spuds are now in the same league as Arsenal. I don’t think its worth paying attention to, Robben probably doesn’t realize we are talking about a team game here; something he doesn’t really understand.

Adebayor says it feels like City are bigger than Arsenal. To be honest I can understand why he would feel that way. Firstly, his wages and those of the others around him can certainly create such an illusion. Then there is also the fact that he is constantly on the bench. Surely he won’t want to feel that he’s moved onto the bench of a smaller club. He does realize that it’s all about results but then goes on to say something like, “We can finish in the top three – that’s our belief now.”

He must be at a really big club if he has ‘top three’ ambition even after that kind of insane spending. Let’s hope we have better things to discuss in the coming week.

VIDEO: Arsenal new-boy Ryo Miyaichi 0

Arsenal’s newly-signed Japanese youngster Ryo Miyachi shows his technical ability in the video below.

The teenager, who was also said to be on the radars of European giants AC Milan and Ajax, will sign for the Gunners after his contract with Chukyo High School expires at the end of September.

However, he’ll would be eligible to move to England to continue his footballing education when he turns 18 in December.

Miyaichi, who played for Japan’s Under-17s at the World Cup in Nigeria in 2009, is currently out injured with a broken leg but is expected to return to fitness before signing for the Gunners at the turn of the year.

Cesc’s a hostage at Arsenal 0

Posted on September 05, 2010 by TheKid

Here I thought that after the transfer window has closed that we will be spared the usual sensationalistic bull****. Boy, was I wrong! I must admit that I was and still is a bit skeptical about the Daily Mail piece about how he is being kept at Arsenal despite his insistence to go. It’s the same old line and I have a very strong feeling that the interviews were conducted some time ago and rehash as a new article since it’s a pretty empty news week in the Premiership.

We all know he wanted to go to Barcelona in the summer but Arsene Wenger talked some sense into him. He has since come out to declare his loyalty to the Gunners for this season and his performances so far has not told us otherwise. I believe Cesc is the consummate professional who will gives his best no matter what. This may be his last season with us and I am sure he wants to leave the Emirates a hero.

I hope we don’t get more nonsense coming out from the dailies so that everyone can get down to serious footballing business once the Premiership resumes next week. Certainly it will be my last post on this subject and if you ever catch me writing about this subject ever again this season, a mystery gift awaits you.

Emmanuel Adebayor: bitterness is a mouth that never closes. 0

Adebayor points to what matters the least to him

Along with Ashley Cole, Emmanuel Adebayor can safely hail himself as one of the most hated men, not just by Gooners, but in modern football. Few can brag to have left such an incredible wake of loathing behind them as the deplorable, outspoken man from Togo.

We hate him; he can’t stop talking about us – he has been unable to stop the constant chuntering since he left the club last summer. He latest little outburst went like this when asked whether his current employers, Manchester City, were a bigger club than the Arse:

“Yeah, it does feel like that. With the great new players we’ve got we have a wonderful chance to make history. But it’s all about results – if we can win ten games in a row, people will class Manchester City as bigger than Arsenal.”

It’s the usual drenched-in-bitterness remark we’ve come to expect – to such an extent that I can safely laugh it off without ever coming close to being offended, but it does serve to reaffirm just how much of a pernicious man Adebayor really is. Whether he’s kicking RvP, head-butting Bendy or acting us if he’s the greatest footballer on Earth – one with the first-touch of a baby Elephant – he’s done little in his career to show he’s nothing more than a grossly over-rated mercenary with the allure of a mouldy carrot.

It really must have dented his spectacularly large ego that the club were not only willing to sell him, but no one has missed him in the slightest since he has left. It’s only a matter of time before the fans at City start to say the same thing, and I’m certain he’ll start throwing his toys out of thr pram when he isn’t a regular starter.

Getting £25 million for him and Chamakh on a free transfer shows just how shrewd a business man Wenger is.

Lord I am so tired, how long must this go on? 0

We’ve only come to see Eboue!

I read that Eboue scored for the Ivory Coast in their 3-0 win over Rwanda. If I find any video I will post it in this space.

Tons of other Arsenal players played this week and/or will play later this week though it looks like Alex Song was not included in the Cameroon side that beat Mauritius 3-1. Cameroon has a new coach so I have to wonder if Song hasn’t picked up a knock.

Wayne Rooney, serial cheater

I’m not surprised that Rooney was caught allegedly cheating on his wife (again, again, again). Why does this even rate as a story? He’s been cheating on the pitch for years why wouldn’t he cheat off the pitch as well.

The only angle of this story that interests me is how all the English lads at Arsenal are such nice boys. As of two years ago, Theo Walcott publicly admitted that he doesn’t drink or party and in the coverage of Wilshere’s bust up on the street they called him teetotal. I would be more than a little shocked if one of those two were caught drunk, smoking cigs, and out hanging with whores at the Arsenal team Christmas party.

Some might criticize the two for being “too nice” but after seeing Wilshere go in hard against Christopher Samba and watching as Theo’s developed his upper body strength I think they are the right mix of modern footballers. Let’s hope they stay far away from Rooney, Lampard, Terry, Crouch, and Defoe when they have the occasion to play with the national side.

Brownie for England!

Phil Brown has finished his gardening leave and after several months of taking a self-help class is now looking for a job. Maybe head coach of England?

Oh Brownie, I miss you.

Everyone has a swipe at Arsenal

Arjen Robben believes that now Spurs have van der Vaart, they are Arsenal’s equal. Heh. We’ll see. Van der Vaart was a decent player 5 years ago but he’s really struggled finding form since his first year at Hamburg. I’m not sure that he’s much better than Luca Modric and after him Spurs have midfield maestro Jermaine Jenas and Tom Huddlestone’s “daisy cutters” providing stiff competition. Van der Vaart has his work cut out for him getting into that side…

What am I saying? He’s a shoo-in for player of the year as Spurs rocket from 10th place to Europa Cup qualification next year.

I’ve been saying for over a year that Adebayor is basically a jilted lover, the kind who talks shit about his ex because he’s still heart broken over the breakup. Here’s the thing… let’s just ignore him. If he shows up at Highbury and throws rocks at your window, don’t engage him in a debate, just call the cops. It’s been nearly two years, it’s time for him to move on and if he can’t then maybe he should be locked up.

Right…

That’s it, I’m off to play a little football and then maybe have a lay around, followed by a movie or something. This is what happens when there’s no football on TV. Damnit, I might even be forced to watch Throwball or something. I’m getting desperate here, folks.
